The ceramic sub-sector (tiles and sanitary wares) of the industry is
dominated by tiles constituting approximately 70% of the industry, while
sanitary wares stand at 30%. Currently, tiling of the floor has become an
integral part of residential and commercial construction structures in the
country.
Ghanaian building and construction importation including machinery,
material ceramics and others uis approx. USD 5 Bn with construction
machinery occupying the major share followed by electrical items and
equipment’s, scaffoldings and iron/ steel items, ceramics and
sanitaryware, furniture and others.
China is the largest supplier to Ghana in the sector, with share of 28% in 2019
(as per data available), followed by UK, USA, India, Belgium, Turkiye, South
Africa etc.
